I would like to wish everyone going to the uk the best of luck.I hope that ye all have a great journey, and experience,hopefully a few gold medals, and come back full of enthusiasm for Limerick regatta the following weekend.Take plenty of photos and put them up on the site when ye return.

St Michael’s HOR 28th Jan 2012

Saturday 28th january saw the annual running of St Michael’s Head of the river in O’Brien’s Bridge.There were over 600 entries, entered from all over the country as far away as Belfast.It was an early start for Shannon RC’s athletes and coaches.Conditions on the water were excellent and the competition got under way approx 8am.Shannon crews were one of the first to launch and one of the last off the water that evening.

The Mens Masters Eight (A) crewed by Fergal O’Callaghan(S),Brian Collins(7),JJ(6),Peter Collins(5),Liam Butler(4),Conor Gilligan(3),Derek Carmody(2),Pat O’Toole(B),Alan Murnane(C) won in a time of 11:44.

The Womens J16 8 (B),Ciara Davis(S),Catriona White(7),Erin Coll(6),Laura O’Connor(5),Ciara O’Dwyer(4),Nicole Russell(3),Rebecca Sarsfield(2),Elva Coleman(B0 and Jane Gilligan(C) won their race in a time of 12:35,followed closely in second place by shannon WJ16 8 (A) in 12:58.

The womens J18 2- Ruth Gilligan and Lauren Mc Hugh were also victorious in a time of 14:04, winning by almost a full minute from Shandon RC.

All in all a successful days rowing from all our junior men and women’s crews,under very muddy conditions.Copious amounts of coffee and hot chocolate were drank to fight off the winter chills.A big thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.Roll on the next event!!
