Irish Rowing Trials 2012 Newry.

The club would like to congratulate all the athletes who travelled to Newry on the weekend to participate in the Irish Rowing Trials 2012.They,and their parents should be very proud of their efforts as is their club.

First onto the ergs were Ruth,Erin and Helen. It was brilliant to watch these three girls give it their all on the erg.All three girls qualified for the water the following day.Erin Coll smashed her PB,Ruth was fourth fastest WJ18 overall and Helen was very impressive in making the qualifying time for LW women.

Forty minutes later was the turn of the boys from Shannon RC.The lads gave everything they had and acquited themselves very well. There was 3 PB’s attained from Adam, Conor and James. Stephen performed very well and will benefit immensely from the experience.Unfortunately only 2 boys made it through to the water time trial,James and Conor.

Conor and James were the first to do the 5K time trial the following morning.Conditions were perfect,no wind and flat conditions with beautiful winter sunshine. They were followed by the girls led by Ruth,Erin and Helen.Well done to all five athletes and a special thank you goes to the parents and coaches who supported everyone to the very finish of the event and beyond.Without their help and support the athletes would be lost.

Once again well done to everyone involved, and a special congratulations go to Conor Carmody who finished as the fastest junior boy in the country on the water.

Keep up the good work everybody.Hard work and dedication is the name of the game.

Yours in Rowing.

Derek Carmody.
